Sexual Assault is a reality, it can happen, anytime, anywhere, the key is to be safe!

RAPE PREVENTION:

AWARENESS- know that the crime of rape is one of the most underreported crimes in the country. Rape happens all around us and you could become a victim.

ATTITUDE- Be aware of the attitudes of others around you, even when you are with someone you know. Are you being treated like a person? How are your signals being interpreted?

ASSERTIVENESS- If you are in a situation that makes you feel uncomfortable, you may need to say "NO" and prove that you mean it. How well you communicate your wishes relates directly to how well you feel about yourself.

RESPONSE- If you consider your response to an assault beforehand, you may be able to implement your plan fast enough to save your life. A self defense and assertiveness training class is helpful and can give you an idea of what your capabilities are and how you can use them.

WHATEVER YOUR TACTIC IS, IF IT SAVES YOUR LIFE, IT IS THE RIGHT ONE !!!!

Remember:

It is NEVER all right to force yourself on another person even if;

-he or she says "No" and you think he or she means "Yes".

-you have had sex with that person before.

-you have paid for a night on the town or an expensive gift.

Do not assume you both want the same degree of intimacy.

If you have any doubts....stop. Ask. Clarify. Protect yourself from a charge of rape because you did not ask. Being drunk or stoned is no excuse. Having sex with someone who is, is rape.

IF YOU ARE RAPED, DO NOT SHOWER, BATHE, CHANGE CLOTHES OR DOUCHE BEFORE GOING TO THE HOSPITAL OR THE POLICE. REPORTING THE CRIME IS YOUR CHOICE. AID TO VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE WILL ACCOMPANY YOU IF YOU WISH.
